Popular Pubs Run For Local Pantry

Local Pubs, The Red Lion and Duckworth Arms, are combining efforts this Spring to raise awareness and much needed
funds for a local food bank. During lockdown, as their bristling pubs lay quiet and closed, the energetic landlords Rik Bennett (Red Lion) and Jack Makin (Duckworth Arms) and their staff have combined their fitness goals and the need to help their community during the pandemic. Aiming to run 520 miles, the two pubs were hammering the treadmill and pavements in a bid through sponsorship to raise a good few trollies worth of food. Ramsbottom Pantry will then make sure this is distributed to families and people in need throughout the town.
The local businesses are not accustomed to sitting idle and in January embarked on a 50-mile endurance run which raised over £500 for the Maggie’s Charity. In March, the teams and their families embarked on a major litter pick to clear the local environment of dropped and blown rubbish. This led to the creation of the Hawkshaw village litter picking group, who will continue their efforts all year round.
