British Empire Award For Rochelle

Community Champion, Rochelle Gardner BEM received her medal at Bury Town Hall recently, for her role in supporting charities, food banks, schools, nurseries, places of worship and much more.

The new Mayor of Bury, Cllr Shaheena Haroon presented Rochelle with the British Empire Medal Rochelle said, “I genuinely couldn’t understand why I was being awarded this medal, for doing a job that I absolutely love doing. I feel extremely lucky to have been given the opportunity to be the Community Champion for Morrison’s Whitefield store, almost ten years ago. I have made so many connections and met some really nice people, who I would call friends. I’ve learnt so much about what goes on in communities, and what still needs to be happening to support so many families and charities, that it just drives me to continue to do as much as I can.”

“I have challenged myself quite a few times over the years, with runs, an abseil, 500,000 steps in a month, and more recently The Morecambe Bay Walk, but for me, the highlight was definitely winning strictly 2021 and raising over £3500 for Bury Hospice, which is very close to my heart.”
