WEST IS BEST FOR SUCCESSFUL COMMUNITY PROJECTS

Nine projects to improve community life in Bury West are going ahead after they won money in a public vote. They were successful at the latest Pitch event, which was held on Saturday at All Saints Church. The nine successful organisations, and their projects, are as follows: JPL Football: Youth football academy. To enter a team of U16s from Elton, St Gabriel’s, Woodhey and Turton High Schools to compete with professional clubs in the North West at development and academy level. Walshaw Church: Community choir. To buy a digital keyboard and amplifier to enable the choir, which now has 35 core regulars, to develop further. Walshaw Church: Baby and toddler group. To buy equipment for the increasingly popular group which now meets twice a week. Brandlesholme Residents Association: Refurbishment of public footpath 150. To widen the path from 1m to 2m and prepare the path for a Tarmac surface, and cutting back trees and vegetation. St Stephen’s PCC: Disabled ramp for centenary community room. To make the room more accessible for wheelchairs and prams until a more permanent access can be built. Fusiliers Court Garden Committee: Fusiliers Gardens in Bloom 2018. To enhance the existing planting scheme for the 24-plus flower beds for the enjoyment of residents and friends. Woodbank Cricket Club: Woodbank Junior Cricket Club. Increasing involvement in sport through fun sessions for specific groups, families and communities, promoting health and social welfare. Baby Basics Bury and Bolton. To buy essential baby items, such as sterilisers and hospital bags, to help families who are referred to them. Bury2gether: SEND Support Bury. Providing a parent/carer forum to help and advocate for those with special educational needs and disabilities, through outreach work, training and leisure opportunities.
