Cornwall – The ‘Cornish Riviera’

Whether you haven’t got the time for a holiday abroad this year, aren’t to keen on flying or simply want to save some pennies this summer then a holiday along the Cornwall coastline may be the answer.

Cornwall is known for the beauty of its sandy beaches. Referred to as the ‘Cornish Riviera’ the South Coast is home to a mile long scenic sand beaches and charming harbour villages with plenty of cafes, galleries and restaurants all within walking distance. The North Coast bordered by protecting cliffs and renowned for the northern winds making it perfect conditions for surfers. Keep reading for our Top 3 picks for the best beaches in Cornwall, from perfect picturesque to seaside village sandy bays, there’s something for everyone.

 

1. Praa Sands Beach

Praa Sands is located on the south coast between Perranuthnoe and Porthleven. Perfect for families as there are plenty of things to do with facilities such as cafes, shops and camp sites near by to the beaches. Praa Sands is a popular choice for surfers with it being slightly more sheltered and with a northerly wind making it a great spot.

 

2. Perranporth (Penhale Sands)

If you are a lover of a traditional seaside town with superb atmosphere Perranporth is a great choice. Situated on the North coast Perranporth is only a short distance from a great choice of shops, pubs and places to eat with the beach itself providing endless opportunities to surf, relax or even enjoy the open air swimming pool that fills with seawater when the tide is high and stays warm during the summer months from the natural heat of the sun. Towards the southern end of the beach can become quite busy during the summer, however, you can easily avoid the overcrowding with a short walk from the village towards Penhale Sands. If you would like a break from the beach there are plenty of other activities and events that occur all year round in Perranporth like their weekly flea markets and their famous yearly
triathlon.

 

3. Porthmeor Beach

Porthmeor is located in an ideal location as one of the most westerly beaches in St. Ives. Being just a stone’s throw away from the town centre, it offers an array of historic pubs, quirky cafes and holiday homes that were owned by past artists accompanied by the many art galleries the town is most famous for, including the Tate gallery. The sandy beach is a hot spot for surfers and families with plenty of activities on offer for all levels of ability. Porthmeor was awarded the Blue Flag Award 2017 which identifies water quality, safety environmental management and education.
