The Coffee Pot

Regi’s corned beef hash speciality!

Photo0250Turkish born, Recep Erturk – locally known as Regi – has ‘Aunty Monica’ to thank for his widely acclaimed corned beef hash dish!

Regi took over at the Coffee Pot 5 years ago and was given expert tips on cooking the famous hash as well as potato pie and other English classics.

“When I first started, I wasn’t that familiar with cooking traditional northern dishes, so Aunty Monica used to come and help me to learn the traditional way of English cooking, and over the years I’ve put my own twist on it and it goes down a treat with everyone.” Regi told us.

Regi fell in love with cooking as a young boy, when he used to staywith his uncle in Istanbul during the summer holidays

“Every summer holiday I worked in cafes, bars & restaurants and after I finished college I did a degree in hotel management and hospitality at a university in Turkey.”

After meeting his Stockport wife while he was working at a holiday resort, Regi came to live Greater Manchester and carved out a career as a carer for various health trusts, nursing homes and hospitals.

“I started to really miss the catering industry and decided to open my own cafe.” Regi said.

‘’I’m passionate about cooking and making good coffees! I work long, tiring hours but it’s worthwhile.”

Regi includes some Turkish specialities on the menu too – including a roast chicken dish based on a recipe from his great grandma! He’s also got new plans and said, “I love The Coffee Pot but it’s getting too small to meet demand, so I’m hoping to make it a bit bigger!”
