Following the relaunch of newly refurbished gastro pub, The Coach at Edenfield, has been causing quite the stir as new hosts Grahame and Karen, look to re-establish the quintessential English pub, with the ambience and menu to match some of the finest eateries in the North West. As they introduce an extensive collection of gin, cask ales and wines to their growing menu, here they review some of their favourites.

• Bon Courage Unwooded Chardonnay, Gold Medal winner at the prestigious Chardonnay du Monde competition 2017.
This particular wine is a great option for wine lovers who can’t stomach wooded whites; some seek it out because it presents an opportunity to enjoy the varietal character in its purist form. Light, pretty tropical fruit aromas and flavours with some pineapple cubes, mango mousse and green pea notes. On the palate the acidity is fresh and bright and the wine can be enjoyed with our char-grilled chicken Caesar salad.

• Chablis L’Onciale, Silver Medal winner at the International wine challenge 2017.
The judges described it as ‘Benchmark classic Chablis, firm and steely lemon hints with intense minerality and a juicy long finish.’ Distinctly nutty with grilled nuts, toasted chestnuts and citrus fresh lemon acidity. This is focused and still youthful but with a complex development. Perfect with our fresh mussels!

• Hecht & Bannier Côtes de Provence Rosé, Silver Medal in the very prestigious Decanter world wine awards 2017.
A gorgeous pale, dry Provence Rosé in a very cool, glass-stoppered bottle. Well balanced wine with great acidity and a refined finish. It has tasty rose water and chalk notes, with flavours of white cherry, peach, strawberry and cantaloupe. Fruity, crisp, fresh and ready to drink on its own! Or try with our Thai marinated Salmon fillet and soft noddle Salad.

Our Verdict: Having launched a new daily menu, pairing the right wine with the right food is crucial. However, we all have our favourites and this month our newly introduced Hecht & Bannier Rose definitely hits the mark. Perfect with many items, it’s also that wine ready for any occasion, noon or night.
