“Vintage Barbara” returns to her roots

A recent addition to Bury Market is Rustic Refines, a vintage household and textile stall set up by Barbara Sisson from Prestwich.

The stall offers a wide range of items from a vintage deck chair -upcycled with hemp sacking – to rustic antique accessories for the home and much more.

“I’ve taken delivery of a few items to gauge how things would go and the interest has been great, so I’ll be introducing lots more ‘stuff’ over the coming weeks.”

Barbara, started working on a second hand stall at Grey Mare Lane market over 20 years ago and always had an eye for old vintage items, which she’d sell on to the antique dealers. Eventually, instead of selling on the items, Barbara started selling herself at the big antique fairs in Newark.

“After a few years of gaining a good reputation on the fairs Barbara was approached by fashion designer, Cath Kidson to source and supply vintage items to dress her various shops.

“I ended up working for Cath for 3 years, which was great. I’ve also sold to traders in Japan & Korea who absolutely love the vintage style”.

Barbara Sisson of Rustic RefinesHaving spent the last 15 years in Newark trading at the major antique fairs & opening her own shop, Barbara has now returned back home to Prestwich.

“I’ve been missing my friends and family in Prestwich and decided it was time to return back to my roots. Vintage is a passion and lifestyle for me and so Bury Market seemed like the obvious choice for me to continue my work and be back home.”

If you’re a fan of quality vintage accessories and soft furnishings for the home such as cushions made from hemp grain sacking and french linen, then take a visit to Barbara’s stall, Rustic Refines at Wyndham Block A on Wednesday’s, Friday’s and Saturday’s.
