INDUSTRY-LEADING RECYCLING BUSINESS MOVES INTO BURY

An award-winning social business has moved into Bury – both saving and creating jobs.

Recycling Lives, a waste management and recycling business, has taken over the former L&D Mortimer site on Birch Street.  The new depot will be a dedicated scrap metal buying facility, paying the best prices in Bury for scrap metal and household waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). Recycling Lives takeover of the site saved the jobs of two staff, already based at the depot, and has created a further five jobs within the business.

The national business, founded in Preston and with sites across Lancashire and the Midlands as well as Greater Manchester, has a unique customer offer of competitive price and service for waste management and recycling goods, as well as creating social impact through its activities.  It is committed to using its new setting to offer training opportunities and jobs for individuals from disadvantaged groups in Bury.  The Birch Street centre is open six-days-a-week from 8.30am.

Neil Dallison, site manager, said: “We’re looking forward to working with residents and businesses in Bury, offering our great price and service along with our unique social impact.”

With more than 40 years’ experience in the recycling sector, Recycling Lives holds the highest environmental standards and ISO accreditations. Its commercial activities directly sustain and support its charity, which has ventures combating food poverty and reducing food waste, rehabilitating offenders and reducing reoffending, and tackling homelessness.  It has been recognised twice by the prestigious Queen’s Award, for its commitment to sustainable development.

Recycling Lives was last week presented the Tony Award at Downtown In Business’ City of Manchester Business Awards, in honour of the city’s cultural icon Tony Wilson. The business club recognised the company’s commitment to not only doing things differently in business, but making a difference in communities, as it is expanding into Greater Manchester.
