FUNDING OF UP TO £1,000 AVAILABLE FOR COMMUNITY GROUPS

Community groups are being offered another chance to win up to £1,000 for local projects that help improve the health and wellbeing of residents in their neighbourhood. It follows the success of the recent Bury North and Bury South Community Pitch events, when a total of 33 local organisations won public support for their initiatives. Projects should be community-led and demonstrate that they help people to help themselves and others to live a healthy life. A second round of ‘Pitch’ events will now be held in November when groups, constituted or not, can outline their proposals to residents, who will then vote on which projects to fund. There will be six presentation events across the borough: Bury East: Saturday 4 November, Whitefield/Unsworth: Sunday 5 November, Radcliffe: Saturday 11 November, Bury West: Saturday 18 November, Prestwich: Sunday 19 November, Ramsbottom, Tottington, North Manor: Saturday 25 November, Councillor Tamoor Tariq, cabinet member for communities and safer neighbourhoods, said: “Our last community funding events were a huge success. They epitomised community spirit and support for the work being undertaken by our unsung heroes right here in our neighbourhoods. It gave our groups a chance to network and build volunteer networks and for new and emerging groups to start projects in collaboration with other members of the community. I would encourage all groups to apply and I hope to see a number of exciting new projects launched in the communities of Bury over the course of the next 12 months.”

The deadline for applications is Friday 20 October at 4pm. Application forms and further information is available at www.theburydirectory.co.uk/thepitch and from Ruth Shedwick, neighbourhood engagement coordinator, on 0161 253 5327.
