Equity Release

A former Tottington financial adviser has won a prestigious national competition.

David Griffin, whose company is Release My Equity Ltd got to the final from 3000 entrants in 11 different categories to beat two other finalists to take the title of Best Sole Trader in the Equity Release Awards’ finals which were held in London.

It is the second time that Mr Griffin, who lives in Harwood, has been recognised in these national awards. His success this year highlights his eight years in the equity release sector and reflects how his business has grown significantly in the last few years.

In the last 12 months, this growth has led him to move his business to become Directly Authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. Over this period, Mr Griffin has also secured lending of £2.5 million for his clients – an increase from £2 million in the previous 12 months.

His business transaction volumes have increased by 13% over the last year, and the company’s turnover has increased by 40% with net profit showing a 20% increase.

Mr Griffin, a former Turton High School pupil, started his career in textiles and moved into sales at age 24. He worked his way up to Commercial Director of Berisfords Ltd at 39 with a company turnover of around £6 million.

He moved into financial services at age 43, specialising in equity release for the last eight years. This sector allows thousands of older homeowners to release capital from the value of their property without having to move home.

“I am absolutely delighted to have been recognised in such an important national competition and to win,” commented Mr Griffin.

“The industry has grown hugely and I’m proud that my business has grown with it. I work predominantly in the local Bury and Bolton areas, creating client relationships that prove rewarding all round.”
