DELEGATION FROM TULLE VISITS BURY

Mayor of Bury hosts delegation from Tulle in France. The Mayor of Bury, Councillor Jane Black was delighted to host today a delegation of visitors from our twin town of Tulle in France.  Going on for 50 visitors came to Bury Town Hall to meet the current Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Councillor Dorothy Gunther and former Mayor Joan Grimshaw. The larger than usual group of French visitors totalled around 50 visitors ranging from age 9 to 90!

The visitors were welcomed with refreshments in the Mayor’s Parlour. While at the Town Hall there was the opportunity to view the civic-ceremonial dress and insignia while also learn about the role and duties of the Mayor and how this differs from the town mayors in France. The group also visited the Council Chamber to hear about how the meetings are run. Councillor Jane Black, Mayor of Bury said: “It was a pleasure to host this French delegation at Bury Town Hall today. I speak quite fluent French so I was able to converse very well with our visitors which was much appreciated. “The delegation has been here since last Sunday with the overall visit being overseen by Yvonne Moore from the Twinning Committee. The group will also be visiting other places of interest in Bury and Greater Manchester before leaving for France on Friday.”
