The Bury 2018 Sports Awards are on their way and residents are invited to submit their nominations by 31st July. The awards will honour volunteers, coaches, clubs, schools and athletes and are organised by Bury Sport and Physical Activity Service.

Councillor Catherine Preston, deputy cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “The Bury Sports Awards give us the opportunity to recognise the borough’s sporting and rising stars, unsung heroes and community clubs. Hopefully their will inspire many more people across Bury to become more active and enjoy the benefits that a sporty and active lifestyle brings.” Last year’s Volunteer of the Year went to Lucia Cronin, a dedicated ride leader who encourages women and families to cycle on fun, friendly and safe routes in Bury. The Changing Lifestyle Recognition Award, meanwhile, was won by Marie Farnworth who went on a personal journey successfully managing weight, controlling diabetes and improving physical activity levels.
