17/18 Season Review

The Christmas period wasn’t kind to Bury, who took a measly three points from a possible 24 in the League, and
were knocked out of the only remaining trophy they were still competing in. December began with a win in round
two of the EFL Trophy against Walsall (2-1), which raised hopes of a potential revival. However, this was not to be the case, as the Shakers would lose their next four League games to Portsmouth (1-0), Peterborough (3-0), Rotherham (3-0) and Fleetwood (2-0) to end December without winning a game or taking a point. January continued much the same as Bury conceded a late goal to lose away at Scunthorpe before being blown away three goals to nil by Plymouth. Next up was the EFL Trophy third round tie against Fleetwood, and despite nearly securing a memorable comeback, the Shakers were to lose 3-2 in a much-improved display. Charlton then visited Gigg Lane, and took all three points with a one goal win. Two days later manager Chris Lucketti was sacked after winning one game in ten, despite only spending two months at the helm of the League One strugglers. Ryan Lowe was swiftly given the job until the end of the season, and with all hope seemingly gone, produced a miraculous win in his first game in charge away at Oxford, returning hero George Miller and Harry Bunn scoring in a 2-1. Next up for the Shakers, six tough fixtures over February which could have a major impact on the club’s chances of survival. New boss Ryan Lowe will be hoping he can continue to pick up points and keep the momentum going. Next up for the Shakers… Come and support Bury FC – Your Local Club!
