BURY CELEBRATES THE JOYS OF GETTING OLDER

A two-week celebration of the opportunities for people aged 50+ took place across Greater Manchester during July.

Local social care provider Persona worked with a range of partners to organise a programme of activities including a mass trampolining event, guided walks, dancing, quizzes, drama and music events. Persona ran events in Bury, as well as neighbouring Bolton as part of the Greater Manchester-wide Festival of Ageing.

A launch event at Bury’s Millgate Shopping Centre pulled in the crowds, with Silver Swans ballet group entertaining shoppers. People also tried their chances in a penalty shoot-out courtesy of the Shooting Stars football academy.

Kat Sowden, Managing Director of Persona Care and Support said: “The Festival of Ageing was a great success with people from across Bury coming together to celebrate ageing well and the opportunities on offer within communities.

“It was great to see so many people making the most of their later years – getting out and enjoying themselves, keeping active and meeting people.

The festival was co-ordinated by a partnership of five groups, 4CT (a charity in Manchester), HMR Circle (in Rochdale), Manchester Metropolitan University Age Friendly Team, Persona (Bury/Bolton) and Wigan Athletic Community Trust. Funding was provided through the Ambition for Ageing programme which is a Big Lottery funded programme through GMCVO.
