Wine Showcase

Boutique wines from some of Turkey’s finest producers

This month we invited Prestwich’s recently opened Mezze9 (a boutique wine bar situated on the upper floor of Anatolian Grill) to review some of their favourite wines.
General manager Eric and bar manager Andy, were delighted to sample 3 of their boutique Turkish wines that are available to enjoy at Mezze9.

Vinkara vineyards is located north east of Ankara. This sparkling made by Kalecik Karasi Grapes which we call it Pinot Noir of Turkey. I am happy to put this wine on attention of you because this is the first wine of Turkey was made by champagne method sparkling. Basically this is Turkish Champagne and it’s brilliant! Come and taste it. Anyone who has a sweet palate will love this.

Sevilen is second largest wine producer in Turkey. It’s a family owned wine maker which is where I grew up and was raised. I actually worked for them when I was still at school, in the grape picking process. This Sauvignon Blanc is lovely floral notes with pink grapefruit and grassy hints. This wine has a balancing finish with lemon sherbet. Try it and you won’t regret it.

One comes from Izmir west Agean region of Turkey. Inky purple in colour, the ripe blackcurrant, black cherry and damson aromas are deepened by coffee liqueur, spice and tobacco notes. It has a solid structure, yet remains round and elegant with firm tannins and leaves rich flavours of fruit and spice on the finish. Shows potential for modest cellaring. I’ve also met the wine makers and they are awesome just like this wine!

Our favourite out of the three reviewed is the Vinkara Yasasin Turkish Champagne which is most unique. Please continue to enjoy Turkish wines from Mezze9.
